About the pastor
Samuel Vargas, Born September 7, 1987, lived a life characterized by rebellion against God and hatred toward mankind until, August of 2004. After being arrested, he was sent to Calvary Chapel San Antonio’s youth camp as an alternative to a greater consequence for his actions. It was there that the Lord called him out of darkness and into his marvelous light, causing him to be born-again. He began attending church regularly at Calvary Chapel of San Antonio from this point on, and serving the Lord in ministry. In 2006, Samuel graduated from Douglas Macarthur High School and in fall of 2007 he went to Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, CA., and studied abroad in Siegen, Germany. He received an associate’s degree in theology after two years of study, and then married the love of his life, Maeggan, the following August.
They served in ministry at Calvary Chapel Oak Harbor, on Whidbey Island, WA., for a year and a half until the Lord directed them into full-time ministry at Calvary Chapel Christian Academy located in Calvary Chapel of San Antonio in January of 2011. The following school year he became a teacher at the academy, and later joined in full-time ministry by his wife, Maeggan, who had been teaching at the academy from August of 2014 to May of 2017. They have been married since 2009 and have a child on the way. In mid-2016 the Lord kept tugging at Samuel and Maeggan's heart to move to Anchorage, Alaska. It was in late May of 2017 when they moved to Alaska as God opened the door for Samuel to become head pastor of Calvary Chapel South Anchorage. Samuel’s passion in life is to help people understand God’s Word better so that they can have a personal relationship with their Creator. As a result one of his favorite verses, which he considers to be his "3-step guide" in his life & ministry, is Ezra 7:10.
